Another day of We Are The World offered participants a unique combination of practical environmental learning, personal reflection, and policy-oriented discussions. Through interactive challenges, nature-based activities, and simulation exercises, participants explored different ways of addressing environmental issues while strengthening their understanding of sustainability and civic engagement.
The day began with a traditional Cypriot breakfast, providing participants with an authentic taste of the host country's culture. The variety of sweet and savory dishes created a warm start to the morning and offered another opportunity for intercultural exchange around the dining table.
Before moving into the main educational activities, participants completed several administrative tasks related to attendance, participation requirements, and reimbursement procedures. This practical session ensured that everyone was fully informed about the project's organizational aspects and ready to continue focusing on the learning journey ahead.
The first major activity of the day was the Eco Challenge, an interactive learning experience designed around a series of thematic stations focusing on key environmental topics. Working in teams, participants rotated through different challenges dedicated to waste reduction, renewable energy, water conservation, sustainable lifestyles, and environmental problem-solving. Through games, discussions, brainstorming exercises, and practical tasks, participants explored environmental issues from multiple perspectives while developing teamwork and communication skills.
The dynamic format encouraged active participation and experiential learning, allowing participants not only to discuss environmental solutions but also to actively engage with them. The activity demonstrated that environmental education can be practical, enjoyable, and accessible while inspiring participants to apply sustainable practices in their daily lives.
After lunch, participants left the conference room behind and headed outdoors for the Green Walk, one of the most reflective activities of the project. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Polis Chrysochous, participants explored the relationship between nature, wellbeing, and environmental responsibility.
Through paired discussions and guided reflection exercises, participants shared their thoughts on how nature influences their mental health, daily habits, and overall quality of life. The peaceful environment encouraged meaningful conversations and offered a valuable opportunity to slow down, disconnect from daily distractions, and reconnect with the natural world. Many participants reflected on the importance of protecting natural spaces not only for environmental reasons but also for human wellbeing and future generations.
The final educational session of the day challenged participants to step into the shoes of policymakers, journalists, environmental experts, and community representatives during a Mock Environmental Policy Debate. The simulation focused on a fictional press conference addressing severe flooding in Valencia, requiring participants to analyze the environmental, social, and political dimensions of the crisis.
Working in different roles, participants prepared speeches, developed arguments, responded to questions, and defended various perspectives. The activity encouraged critical thinking, public speaking, negotiation, and decision-making skills while highlighting the complexity of environmental policymaking. Participants quickly realized that environmental challenges often require cooperation between governments, communities, experts, and citizens in order to find effective solutions.
The debate generated thoughtful discussions about climate change adaptation, disaster preparedness, environmental responsibility, and the importance of evidence-based decision-making. The realistic format helped participants better understand how environmental issues are addressed at local, national, and international levels.
As every evening, participants gathered for reflection and evaluation sessions where they shared their learning experiences, personal insights, and memorable moments from the day. Dissemination teams continued documenting the project through photos, videos, and social media content, helping spread the project's environmental message beyond the group itself.
The day successfully combined action, reflection, and advocacy. Participants explored practical environmental solutions, strengthened their connection with nature, and gained valuable insight into the challenges of environmental decision-making. Through these experiences, they continued developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become active advocates for a more sustainable future.
