The sixth day of our project brought participants closer to the realities faced by communities and encouraged them to explore how young people can become active contributors to positive social change. After spending previous days developing skills in communication, leadership, empathy, and sustainability, Day 6 focused on connecting these competencies with real-world challenges and community engagement.
The day began with a traditional Greek breakfast, offering participants another opportunity to experience the cultural diversity represented within the project. Sharing local dishes and learning about cultural traditions has become an important part of the exchange, creating opportunities for informal learning and intercultural dialogue from the very start of each day.
Following the morning energizer, participants engaged in one of the most thought-provoking activities of the project: the Problem Tree Analysis Workshop. Working in international groups, participants explored a range of social issues that continue to affect young people and communities across Europe.
The discussions focused on topics such as youth unemployment, mental health stigma, environmental challenges, educational inequality, gender discrimination, and limited youth participation in decision-making processes. Rather than simply identifying the problems themselves, participants examined their root causes, contributing factors, and long-term consequences.
Through the visual structure of the problem tree method, participants discovered how many social issues are interconnected. They reflected on how challenges that may initially seem isolated are often linked to broader social, economic, and cultural factors. The activity encouraged critical thinking while helping participants better understand the complexity of the issues affecting their communities.
Later in the morning, participants prepared for one of the most anticipated experiences of the day: engaging directly with members of the local community. Before heading out, they took part in a practical preparation session focused on interview techniques, active listening, respectful communication, and ethical storytelling.
Participants learned how to create meaningful conversations built on trust, curiosity, and empathy. They discussed the importance of listening without judgment and allowing people to share their experiences in their own words. This preparation helped build confidence and ensured that the interviews would be conducted respectfully and thoughtfully.
During the afternoon, participants entered the local community to conduct interviews with local residents. This activity provided a unique opportunity to move beyond classroom discussions and hear firsthand perspectives on social challenges, community life, and local realities.
For many participants, these conversations became one of the most impactful moments of the project. Listening directly to people's experiences allowed them to better understand the human stories behind the issues they had been discussing earlier in the day. Participants heard concerns, hopes, personal reflections, and ideas for positive change, gaining valuable insights that could not be learned through theory alone.
After returning, participants worked together to edit their interview recordings and prepare presentations for the wider group. The screening of the interviews generated meaningful discussions and emotional reflections. Participants spoke about what surprised them most, the common themes that appeared across different conversations, and the importance of creating spaces where community voices can be heard.
Many reflected on how direct engagement with local people helped them develop greater empathy and a deeper understanding of social challenges. The activity reinforced one of the core messages of the project: meaningful change begins by listening to the experiences of others.
The day also included the creation of a Collaborative Resource Database, where participants collected and shared information about youth organizations, volunteering opportunities, educational platforms, NGOs, Erasmus+ opportunities, and community initiatives. The database became a practical tool that participants can continue using after the project to support future youth initiatives and community-based actions in their own countries.
As every evening, participants gathered around the growing Reflection Tree, which has become a symbol of the group's collective learning journey. Through open reflection, participants shared their emotions, personal discoveries, and memorable experiences from the day. Many highlighted how powerful it was to step outside the project venue and connect directly with people from the local community.
The day concluded with a lively and energetic Greek Cultural Evening. The Greek team introduced participants to their culture through traditional music, dances, local snacks and sweets, cultural games, and stories about everyday life and customs in Greece. The evening quickly transformed into a celebration of friendship, cultural exchange, and shared experiences as participants joined the dances, learned new traditions, and enjoyed another memorable night together.
The main learning outcome of Day 6 was the understanding that social change begins with listening. Participants learned that before creating solutions, it is important to understand people's experiences, perspectives, and needs. Through direct community engagement, they strengthened their communication skills, empathy, active listening abilities, and awareness of social challenges affecting communities across Europe.
As One World, Many Voices approaches its final days, participants are increasingly recognizing the role they can play as active citizens, community leaders, and advocates for inclusion and positive change. Day 6 served as a powerful reminder that every community has valuable stories to share—and that every voice deserves to be heard.
