The second day of our Erasmus+ Youth Exchange “Unfiltered Confidence” invited participants to reflect on how society, culture, and personal experiences shape the way we see ourselves and others. Through interactive discussions, creative activities, and movement-based learning, participants deepened their understanding of body image while strengthening the bonds formed on the first day.
We began the morning with a Multicultural Body Image Exchange, where each national group explored and presented body image perceptions within their own countries and cultures. Participants discussed beauty standards, social expectations, media influences, and the challenges young people face regarding appearance and self-esteem. The session encouraged meaningful intercultural dialogue and helped participants recognize that while body image issues may take different forms across societies, many of the underlying challenges are shared globally. By listening to diverse perspectives, participants developed greater empathy, cultural awareness, and critical thinking about the messages they encounter every day.
The reflection continued with the Circle of Control activity. Participants examined the difference between aspects of life they can influence and those that remain beyond their control. Through guided discussions and personal reflection, they explored how focusing excessive energy on external expectations, social judgments, or unrealistic standards can negatively affect self-confidence and well-being. The activity encouraged participants to redirect their attention toward their own choices, attitudes, and personal growth, fostering a healthier and more empowering mindset.
Following the reflective sessions, participants headed outdoors for Sweat It Out, an energetic physical activity designed to promote movement, release stress, and improve overall well-being. Through exercise and teamwork, participants experienced the positive impact that physical activity can have on both mental and emotional health. The session also reinforced the idea that movement should be appreciated for the joy, energy, and health benefits it brings rather than solely for appearance-related goals.
After a refreshing coffee break, creativity took center stage with the Tear-Off Compliment Flyers activity. Participants created posters filled with positive messages, encouraging words, and uplifting compliments that could be torn off and shared throughout the venue. This simple yet powerful activity transformed the space into an environment of encouragement and kindness, reminding everyone of the importance of positive communication and mutual support. Participants experienced firsthand how even small gestures can have a meaningful impact on someone’s confidence and mood.
The day concluded with a reflection session where participants shared their insights, emotions, and learning points from the activities. Many highlighted the value of hearing different cultural perspectives and the importance of focusing on self-acceptance rather than external pressures.
In the evening, the group enjoyed a vibrant Portuguese Cultural Night, where participants from Portugal introduced their traditions, culture, and national identity through presentations, games, music, and shared experiences. The evening provided another opportunity for intercultural learning while strengthening friendships and creating lasting memories.
Day 2 reminded us that confidence grows when we learn to appreciate diversity, focus on what truly matters, and support one another with kindness and understanding.
